You don't have to get fancy, but if any members want to chat, this is a better place than the comments on a blog. I personally don't think many people even notice it...to make a comment.

http://www.proboards.com/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211747217875691594.post-30588375410593040202009-02-09T03:30:00.000-07:002009-02-09T03:30:00.000-07:00If you look at the majority of listings on Craig's...If you look at the majority of listings on Craig's List, you will see this....."I'm moving from the area and cannot keep my pet" or "I cannot keep Fluffy because I'm moving to an apartment building that doesn't take pets."....etc, etc.

On my own blog I have a section on bad apartments in this area. There is one in the area that is quite nasty about it. They have over 200 units. This is 200 places animals are not allowed. Since they cater to the university students, they end up with pets anyway. As well as barf and people pee from their drunken parties on their rugs......
It would seem easier to me to remove the rugs and put tile through out the rest of the apartment rather than changing the cheap rugs every time someone moves out. Then, they could accept pets and not be half empty like they are now.

It would be good if we could get more rental properties to take pets. Since a majority is managed by realty groups, a good goal would be to approach them on their practices and educate them so eventually less animals would end up dying needlessly.

I have to say without Craig's List and other venues to adopt, the Pound would be more over run than it is now. I wish people would take the time to list their pets privately for adoption, rather than dumping them at the pound...It's not an adoption agency! I don't think these people understand that. If you take that dog or kitty there, good chance that it will be killed.

I want to mention about one area group that has posed a problem with pet adoption. The local Freecycle group on Yahoo. Decided in all it's wisdom to get so over zealous about free pet listings that they are causing more harm than good. Contrary to their belief that free pets get adopted by evil people who lurk looking for fodder for their Pitbulls etc...The truth is that most are not. It's not their job to be The Pet Police. The charter of the mother group allows pet listings, but locally, their interference just causes more pets that have to take that last walk to the pound.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211747217875691594.post-30666214439877324932009-02-09T02:54:00.000-07:002009-02-09T02:54:00.000-07:00Your coalition needs to start pressuring the vets,...Your coalition needs to start pressuring the vets, since SNAP isn't a viable solution now, into stabilizing their neutering rates. If everyone would start their rates at $35, there would be more response from the public. But when you have such wide swings in this procedure, up to over $100 starting rate..This just doesn't work with this sort of price gouging.

Every Vet who joins in could get a 'Good Vet' listing to advertise their service to the community. This could be listed here as well as in the newspaper, and why not make an animal oriented paper, much like Pet-rogyphs that is published in the north part of this state, for down here.

If the main stay of the vets won't get on board, then how about making a spay and neuter clinic in town that charges low rates. The Vets won't like it...BUT Too Bad.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7211747217875691594.post-60184820911337419582009-02-09T02:38:00.000-07:002009-02-09T02:38:00.000-07:00If the city doesn't have the money to fund SNAP, t...If the city doesn't have the money to fund SNAP, then I strongly suggest that they stop the WASTE with Animal Control. Our tax dollars go to fund having them trap small animals. They just sit there watching to see what they get. Instead of being out there doing work, they are goofing off eating and yapping on their cell phones. Then when some hapless animal wanders in their trap, they go hopping over to the pound to take the monster feral kitty to it's doom. Once there it's an automatic death sentence. They have no chance. Then off goes the Animal Nazi once again with trap in hand to another dark corner to hide in hope to kill another cat.

So if the pound is killing off tons of ferals...WE are paying for the bums to drag them in to do it.

It might be good to note how the County Animal Control is now advertising to get volunteer officers.....This volunteer stuff needs to STOP........NOW! They do not need help when they have them wasting their time and wasting the lives of animals with their horrible practices. They do nothing to speak of to curb animal abuse. And what they do is negated by the court practices of turning lose guilty people. Either by not prosecuiting in a timely manner or by having bogus jury resolutions or by giving a slap on the wrist with probation's and no other punishments with dog fighters.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
